Welcome back to “Weighing In From Around KTIC Country”.   Over the next couple of months, we’ll visit weekly from a different farmer somewhere in the KTIC listening area to discuss what sort of challenges the encountered during the growing season, how the harvest is coming along, and what sort of yields they are seeing.  Join us for the harvest journey 2020 and check back every week for another installment.

Week 3 – David Cooper, Mondamin, IA

David reports a very quick and smooth harvest season so far…. beans are coming out quickly in the neighborhood, as moisture levels drop below 10% in many cases.  And as work begins on corn harvest, David is surprised that the moisture is dropping quickly in the corn as well.

Week 2 – Dennis Fujan, Prague, NE – central Saunders County

Dennis was able to get some soybeans harvested before the recent rains, and is now returning to the fields.  Dennis compares harvested fields this year to 2 years ago when beans were in those fields, and it showcases the impact of the limited rain this summer.  Very little corn for grain harvest has happened, and he anticipates a very active harvest week this week.

Week 1 – Ron Coufal, Howells, NE – western Cuming County

While they avoided the rain, they also avoided major insect and diseases pressure in the crops.  Chopping of corn silage is done, taking high moisture corn is next, then soybeans.  There’s also a quick report on the feedlot at the end.
