Wiese sets record in Gering win, Scottsbluff and Alliance halted early

Wiese sets record in Gering win, Scottsbluff and Alliance halted early

It was a tricky Tuesday night for area softball teams as they had to navigate through another round of severe weather. One game was able to finish, the other was suspended midway through.

At Gering it was Madi Wiese dominating in the circle with a record setting performance. Wiese struck out a school record 14 hitters as Gering beat Chadron by the final of 4-0.

Wiese allowed just two hits and walked only one batter in the seven inning complete game shutout and her head coach, Tim Gonzalez says she stacks up with the best in the state.

Wiese can also swing the bat. Hitting out of the leadoff spot, she homered and drove in two runs.

Brylee Dean added some offensive support with an RBI and an extra base hit.

Gering improved to 6-5 with the win and they’ll play again this weekend at the Scottsbluff Invitational.

Chadron, also in town for the Invite this weekend, fell to 2-4.

Scottsbluff/Alliance halted early due to weather

While they were able to finish over at Oregon Trail Park the game at Scottsbluff High School last night was suspended before the final out.

Scottsbluff led Alliance 5-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning due to lightning and rain.

Alliance scored the first run of the night in the top of the first but then the Bearcats answered right back in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 lead on a RBI double from Mariyah Avila and then Taylor Klein produced an RBI knock.

Scottsbluff would tack on three more runs in the third inning with Klein picking up her second RBI with a single and later Hope Schanaman ripped a RBI single to the outfield grass.

Kymber Shallenberger had completed four innings of one run ball in the circle.

The two teams will pick this game up right where they left off later this season with the Bearcats leading 5-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Alliance will be here this weekend as Scottsbluff hosts their annual invitational.
