UNO Women sign four

OMAHA, Neb. – Head coach Carrie Banks announced the singing of four student-athletes to National Letters of Intent.

The signees include Caprice Augustine, Grace Cave, Morgann Gardner and Alexis Pratt.

“We are beyond excited to officially welcome the 2021 class to Omaha,” said Banks. “Our staff has worked tirelessly to identify high-character individuals that are talented, tough and possess unlimited potential.  They will be great ambassadors for our program on the court, in the classroom and the community.  This group is driven and highly motivated and will have an immediate impact on Omaha womens basketball.”

Caprice Augustine | 6-2 | Center | Ypsilanti, Mich.
Augustine hails from Ypsilanti, Mich., as a 6-foot-2 center. Shes coming off a junior season where she averaged 13.5 points, 11.2 rebounds and 3.1 blocks per game at Ypsilanti AC Tech High School. In AAU ball, Augustine played for 1Nations 15 and 16U teams, and The Factory 17U team throughout high school.

“Caprice is a talented post player that brings us size and toughness around the rim,” said Banks. “She plays with a competitive energy and has a tremendous post presence. Caprice is an exceptional rebounder and rim protector with a developing perimeter game. Shes only been playing basketball for four years and has just scratched the surface of her abilities. We are excited to have someone with her potential and work ethic in our program.”

Grace Cave | 5-7 | Guard | Weeping Water, Neb.
A multi-time letterwinner out of Weeping Water High School, Cave joins the Mavericks after a junior season where she earned a conference championship, a district championship and a state qualifying appearance. Last season, Cave was named All-Conference, First Team All-State, KMLANDs Nebraska Girls Basketball Player of the Year and surpassed the 1,000-point mark in her career. Cave also played AAU basketball for the Nebraska Lasers.

“Grace is a versatile guard that can play the point or shooting guard position,” said Banks. “She is a phenomenal playmaker that sees the floor especially well.  Grace has deep range and her ability to create for herself and her teammates make her the perfect fit.  Grace is a homegrown kid that is tough, hard-working and exciting to watch.  We are so happy she decided to stay at home and represent Omaha womens basketball.”

Morgann Gardner | 6-2 | Forward | Racine, Wis.
Gardner is coming off a junior season where she was named First Team All-Conference and All-County out of Racine Lutheran High School. She was also named Honorable Mention in Division 4 and All-State Honorable Mention. Gardner was also named to the Stevens Point Holiday Classic All-Tournament Team and played AAU for the Midwest Elite.

“Morgann is a versatile forward that has the ultimate combination of size, skill and athleticism,” said Banks. “Her ability to handle the ball, shoot from the perimeter, and score around the rim make her a tough match-up.  Morgann rebounds and runs the floor with relentless energy.  She is a special player with a high ceiling and we are thrilled that shes officially a Maverick.”

Alexis Pratt | 5-5 | Guard | Saint Paul, Minn.
Pratt signs with the Mavericks out of Stillwater Area High School where she tallied a 20-5 record and earned a section championship and appeared in the state tournament. The point guard averaged 18.0 points, 4.4 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 3.2 steals per game while she also surpassed the 2,000-piont mark. Pratt was also named All-Conference and team captain. Pratt also played AAU basketball for the Minnesota Fury where she helped her team to a Minnesota State Championship back-to-back times in 2019 and 2020.

“Alexis is a dynamic point guard with exceptional play-making abilities,” said Banks. “She can score in a variety of ways and plays at an incredible pace on both ends of the floor.  Alexis is a spark plug and absolutely fearless on the court.  She will bring tremendous energy and leadership and we are thrilled that she will call Omaha home.”
