SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Omaha womens basketball program saw it season come to a close with a 99-40 loss to top-seeded South Dakota Saturday afternoon at The Denny Sanford PREMIERE Center.
Omaha finishes its season at 7-23 overall, while South Dakota improves 28-2 and advances to the semifinals.
LEADERS FOR OMAHA
Both Ella Ogier and Mariah Murdie recorded double-digit performances. Ogier had a team-high 13 points with three rebounds, while Murdie had 10 points and six rebounds.
LEADERS FOR SOUTH DAKOTA
Four Coyotes recorded double figures in the game as Ciara Duffy posted a game-high 17 points with six rebounds and six assists on 6-for-11 shooting. Monica Arena (16), Hannah Sjerven (14) and Chloe Lamb (11) posted double-digit efforts.
INSIDE THE FIRST HALF
South Dakota built an early lead and increased it to double digits (16-6) at the 4:46 mark in the first quarter. The Coyote eventually went on a run and led 31-9 after the first quarter. At the half, Omaha fell into a 64-18 deficit.
INSIDE THE SECOND HALF
Omaha was outscored 16-10 in the third quarter and saw the game at 80-28 after three. A 19-12 Coyote fourth quarter closed out the game at 99-40.
NOTING TODAYS GAME
• Senior Rayanna Carter finishes her Maverick career with 511 points, 146 rebounds and 124 assists.
• Omaha was held to 40 points, which marked one shy of a season low (39) also against South Dakota.
• The Mavericks shot 14-55 from the field, 1-for-12 from three and 11-of-17 from the charity stripe.
