OMAHA, Neb. – The Mavericks finished the opening weekend of league action 2-0 with a sweep vs. Western Illinois. Sadie Limback, Sami Clarkson, and Shayla McCormick posted a double-doubles in the 3-0 win over the Leathernecks.
With the win, Omaha improves to 5-7 overall and 2-0 in the Summit League.
How It Happened
- The first set went back and forth ending in favor of the Mavericks, 27-25. It saw 17 ties and 11 lead changes as both teams struggled to find momentum. Sadie Limback recorded three straight kills giving Omaha an earl 3-2 edge. Later in the set, Rylee Marshall and Marriah Buss made it a 21-19 Omaha lead recording kills in a 3-0 run. McCormick and Buss tallied the final kills of the set capturing a 27-25 win.
- The Mavericks took control of the second set with five straight points to start it off. Limback sparked the run with a kill out of the gates, while four straight errors from the Leathernecks completed the run. Buss sparked a 9-2 run midway through with a kill. Marshall and Limback recorded multiple kills in the stretch opening Omaha’s lead to 20-9. Lakyn Graves and Buss put the set away with back-to-back kills. Omaha won 25-12.
- WIU jumped out to a 6-4 lead early in the third set, but Buss recorded two kills in a 3-0 run to give the Mavericks a 7-6 lead. The Leathernecks took two more leads before a Limback kill sparked a 5-0 Omaha run. Marshall kept the momentum in Omaha’s favor with a kill beginning another 4-0 run for the Mavericks. Omaha closed the match with eight straight points. Five of those points were on kills from McCormick.

- Limback led the Mavericks with 17 kills. She completed the double-double with 10 digs. Limback tallied Omaha’s two service aces in the match.
- McCormick posted her first career double-double with a new season-high of 10 kills. She added 11 digs and four blocks.
- Sami Clarkson finished with 45 of Omaha’s 47 assists. She added 17 digs for a double-double.
- Buss finished hitting .455 with 11 kills.
- Jaiden Centeno led with 17 digs, while Claire Mountjoy added 10.
