FARGO, N.D. – The Omaha volleyball team collected its second-straight five-set victory (25-16, 24-26, 22-25, 25-22, 15-5) at North Dakota State on Saturday evening to clinch the weekend sweep over the Bison in Fargo, N.D.
The win moves the Mavericks to 11-5 (10-4 Summit League) while the Bison drop to 8-6 (6-6) on the season.
Sami Clarkson recorded a double-double with 56 assists and 10 digs while adding a pair of service aces. Claire Mountjoy posted a team-high 25 digs and Rylee Marshall chipped in a team-high six blocks with six kills. Oliva Curry led Omaha with three service aces.
Leaders for North Dakota State
Ali Hinze recorded a match-high 22 kills and had 23 digs. Alexis Bachmeier totaled 10 kills with 13 digs while Bella Lien added seven kills. Kelley Johnson garnered 42 assists, seven digs, four service aces and three kills.
Omaha hit .263 to North Dakota State’s .132. The Mavericks totaled 64 kills with 76 digs and nine service aces while the Bison had 51 kills, 71 digs and five service aces. Omaha edged the Bison in blocks, 8-5.
Inside the First Set
All tied at six, the Mavericks rattled off three straight points off a kill by Blaschko and kill and block by McKenna Ruch to take control of the set. Blase’s kill gave Omaha the 19-13 lead before Ruch’s kill and a pair of Bison errors led the Mavericks to a 25-16 first-set win.
Inside the Second Set
A 3-0 rally had the Mavericks up 15-12 before NDSU and Omaha were locked in a tie at 20. The Bison jumped ahead 24-22 until a kill by Fairbanks and an NDSU error tied it back up at 24. Back-to-back kills helped the Bison to a 26-24 win the second set.
Inside the Third Set
Omaha trailed 13-6 before a 4-0 spurt had the Mavericks within 13-10 after back-to-back NDSU errors. The Mavericks battled back to a 20-20 tie and North Dakota State responded with two consecutive points before posting a 25-22 victory.
Inside the Fourth Set
A kill by Fairbanks joined with a pair by Blase had the Mavericks out in front with a 17-12 lead. NDSU climbed back within 20-18 until a kill by Limback and a Bison error gave Omaha the 22-18 lead. Kenedy Schaecher served up an ace to get to set point for Omaha while an attack error sealed the 25-22 win for the Mavericks.
Inside the Fifth Set
Limback’s 20th kill of the night had the Mavericks out in front 7-3 until Blaschko unleashed three consecutive kills to stretch the lead to 10-3. An NDSU error and kills by Limback and Blaschko built the advantage to 13-3 before an NDSU service error set up match point for the Mavericks. Blaschko’s 11th kill of the match clinched the weekend sweep on the road for Omaha.
The Mavericks are off next weekend before wrapping up the regular season with a weekend series at home vs. Oral Roberts on Friday and Saturday, March 26-27 at Baxter Arena.
