UNO Softball splits with New Mexico State

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Senior Emma Dargy launched a two-run homer in the top of the eighth to help Omaha post a 7-5 extra-inning victory at New Mexico State on Saturday afternoon. NMSU won the second game on Saturday with a 6-5 walk-off victory.

The Mavericks move to 5-4 on the season while the Aggies are 5-3.

Game One: Omaha 7, New Mexico State 5 (F/8)
How It Happened

  • Omaha opened the scoring in the first when Jamie Whites RBI single brought home Allison Helton to give the Mavericks the early lead.
  • The Mavericks doubled the lead in the second when Janae Cameron scored on Emily Klostermans RBI single to left field.
  • Helton and Emma Dargy began the third with back-to-back singles before Sedlaks infield single to the shortstop allowed Helton to touch home.
  • Cameron and Bartz were issued consecutive bases-loaded walks to score Dargy and White and the Mavericks led 5-0 going into the bottom of the third.
  • New Mexico State tied the game in the third after scoring five runs on four hits.
  • Pitching had the upper hand in the next four innings as neither team was able to score a run and the Aggies and Mavericks headed to the eighth inning locked in a tie at five.
  • Lynsey Tucker reached on an Aggie error and Dargy brought her home while crushing her fifth home run of the season to give Omaha a 7-5 lead.
  • Sydney Hampton shut down NMSU in the bottom half to clinch the victory for the Mavericks.

  • Omaha scored seven runs on 10 hits and didnt commit an error while leaving nine runners on base.

  • Tucker led off the game with a walk and came around to score after Johnsons RBI single to right center gave the Mavericks the quick score.
  • The Mavericks piled on three more runs on three hits in the second inning.
  • Sydney Ross opened the second with a hit by pitch before Hailey Bartzs double down the right field line brought her home to double the Maverick lead.
  • Dargy doubled home Klosterman and Tucker as Omaha jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two.
  • The Aggies scored their first run of the game on an RBI single to cut the Omaha advantage to 4-1 after four innings.
  • NMSU added a pair of runs after a three-run homer in the sixth to post a five-run sixth inning to take a 5-4 lead.
  • Freshman Diana Murtha opened the seventh with a pinch-hit solo home run to tie the game at five.
  • The Aggies scored on a bases-loaded fielders choice in the bottom of the sevent
