UNO Softball adds three for 2020

OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha softball head coach Amanda Eberhart announced the addition of three student-athletes that have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Maverick softball program in the fall of 2020.

The Mavericks welcome Elizabeth Eltze, Jaelle Johnson and Sydney Nuismer to the softball program. All three signees hail from Nebraska.

“We are excited to be welcoming these three student-athletes to our softball program,” said Eberhart. “They bring a great level of character, competitiveness and dedication that will add greatly to the culture of this program. We’re really looking forward to getting this group to Omaha and seeing them compete for playing time.”

Omaha Signees (3)
Elizabeth Eltze | Outfield | Crete, Neb. | Crete High School
Eltze competed in softball, basketball and track and field at Crete High School. She was named all-state honorable mention as a freshman and Class B first-team all-state as a sophomore while helping her team capture the state championship. As a junior, she was named Class B first-team all-state and a second-team super state honoree.

Eberhart on Eltze: “Elizabeth is a multi-sport athlete who is going to bring a high level of speed and explosiveness to our team. Her athleticism allows her to cover a lot of ground in the outfield while also having a strong arm. At the plate, she adds another left-handed bat to our lineup.”

Jaelle Johnson | Infield | Fairbury, Neb. | Fairbury High School
Johnson has lettered in softball, basketball and track and field in all four years at Fairbury High School. She has earned Southern Nebraska all-conference honors all four seasons, including the last three as a first-team selection. Johnson was a second-team all-state selection by the Lincoln Journal Star and an all-state honorable mention honoree by the Omaha World-Herald as a sophomore. In her junior campaign, she was named all-state honorable mention by the World-Herald and Journal Star. She led her team to a 28-5 record and was crowned district and state champions in her senior season.

Eberhard on Johnson: “Jaelle is such a driven player that I can’t wait to see join our program. Her versatility and high-level IQ when she’s on the field puts her in a position to succeed while also making everyone around her better.”

Sydney Nuismer | Utility | Elkhorn, Neb. | Elkhorn High School
Nuismer led Elkhorn to combined 105-28 record as a four-year letterwinner. She totaled 13 home runs and 87 RBI in her career while posting a 70-19 career record in the circle, including 27-5 in her senior season with a 1.85 ERA. Nuismer was a two-time first-team super state selection and led her team to four regular season conference titles, two conference tournament championships, one state championship and a runner-up finish at state.

Eberhart on Nuismer: “Sydney is an absolute gamer when she is on the field. You always know you are going to get her everything with her in the circle. Her drive and grit will make her an immediate impact for our program. She is an Omaha kid who loves Omaha and we can’t wait for her to be a Maverick.”
