OMAHA, Neb. — Head coach Derrin Hansen announced Wednesday the signing of Bellevue West standout Frankie Fidler to a National Letter of Intent for the 2021-22 season.

The 6-7, 195-pound forward has been a two-year letterwinner for Coach Doug Woodard at BWHS, where Fidler enters his senior campaign in 2020-21. He helped the Thunderbirds to the 2020 Class A state championship and a 24-3 record in his junior season, averaging 12.3 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 52% from the floor.

Fidler was a second-team Super State selection by the Lincoln Journal Star and garnered an academic all-state award last season.

Fidler also plays for Coach Mike Mackie in the Team Factory AAU program.

“Were excited about the addition of Frankie Fidler,” Hansen said. “He has all the qualities we like in our program — a terrific kid, a hard worker who comes from a winning program and a versatile player who shoots it well.

“Frankie will follow in the footsteps of Bellevue West products Michael Jenkins and Jeff Martin, who had tremendous college careers here and who I had the pleasure of coaching as Mavericks. Frankies best basketball is definitely ahead of him, and we look forward to seeing his success in the Omaha program.”

Fidler intends to major in architectural design at UNO.

“I have a great relationship with Coach Hansen and Coach (Pat) Eberhart,” Fidler said. “I loved their style of play on the court and the history behind their success in the season. The campus is amazing, and its a perfect fit right here in Nebraska in front of my family and friends.”
