UNO drops two on second day of North Dakota Series

OMAHA, Neb. – North Dakota snuck out two wins over Omaha softball Sunday afternoon. The Fighting Hawks took game one, 1-0, and game two, 2-0, to split the regular season series with the Mavericks.

Omaha falls to 7-16 (2-2) on the year.

Game 1: North Dakota 1, Omaha 0
How It Happened

  • Both the Hawks and Mavericks tallied a hit in the first inning. Campos led off with a single up the middle to start the game, while Lynsey Tucker singled through the left side to start Omahas half of the first. Both were left stranded leaving the game scoreless.
  • The Fighting Hawks got on board in the third inning. Kirk hit a lead off double down the left field line. She advanced to third on a sac bunt from Campos, but scored following a throwing error by the Omaha second baseman. UND went up 1-0.
  • Emily Klosterman recorded another hit for Omaha in the sixth inning, while Lexi Burkhardt reach on a walk in the seventh, but the Hawks held on to a 1-0 win in game one.

  • Tucker and Klosterman tallied the only Omaha hits of the game.
  • Tucker and Klosterman each recorded a stolen base.
  • Sydney Nuismer pitched a complete game in the circle finishing with six strikeouts. She falls to 1-5 on the year.

Game 2: North Dakota 2, Omaha 0
How It Happened

  • Campos opened the game with another hit for the Hawks. She sent a double to left center in the lead off spot, but UND left her stranded.
  • Taylor Johnson recorded Omahas first hit in the bottom of the second with a two-out single to left center. Johnson and Allison Helton were left on following a strikeout in the next at-bat.
  • The Hawks got on the board in the top of the third capitalizing on a Maverick error. Sartin and Haslett got on base for UND and eventually scored following an error by Omahas third baseman.
  • Helton got in scoring position for Omaha in the bottom of the seventh with a double to left field. Two straight outs by the Hawks clinched the 2-0 win for UND.

Inside the Box Score

  • Tucker tallied hits in back-to-back games for Omaha. She finished the second game 1-for-3 at the plate with a stolen base.
  • Helton led Omaha with two hits, while Johnson tallied the fourth hit.
  • Kamryn Meyer pitched another complete game tallying 11 strikeouts. She falls to 3-6 in the circle this season.

On Deck

  • The Mavericks get a weekend off next week, but return to the field on Saturday, April 10 and Sunday, April 11. Omaha travels to South Dakota State for a pair of conference doubleheaders beginning at noon each day.
