Turnovers Doom Gators in Season Opening Loss at LCC

LAUREL – It was a tale of turnovers and two different halves when Wisner-Pilger hit the road for a Friday night football match up against Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, as aired on 107.9 The Bull.

The Gators took a 14-0 lead into halftime, but were outscored 22-0 after the intermission, as LCC claimed a 22-14 victory.

Wisner-Pilger threw an interception on their opening offensive possession, but got the ball back.

The Gators were then forced to punt, LCC was turned away on a fourth down attempt, and the teams traded interceptions as the first quarter came to a close scoreless.

Wisner-Pilger started their next drive on the Bears 19 after an interception, and ended things in the end zone after a three yard scoring run by Klay Koehlmoos. The two point try was no good, and the Gators led 6-0 with 11:54 in the second quarter.

LCC punted on their next set of downs, and Wisner-Pilger took over at the LCC 35. Regan Bellar connected with Koehlmoos on a 33-yard touchdown pass, putting the Gators up 14-0 after the two-point conversion, with 8:34 left in the first half.

The teams traded punts, LCC threw an interception, and the teams traded punts again, sending the game into halftime with Wisner-Pilger leading 14-0.

LCC started the third quarter with the football on their own 15, and marched the 65 yards in just over four minutes, ending the drive on an 11 yard run by Evan Haisch. The two point try missed, and Wisner-Pilger led 14-6 with 7:58 in the third.

The Gators drove all the way down to the LCC nine yard line before being turned away on fourth down. LCC also failed to convert a fourth down try, and the same thing happened on the next possession for Wisner-Pilger.

LCC reached pay dirt again with 6:35 left in the game as Haisch scored for the second time, this being a five yard run. The two point try missed and the game was tied 14-14.

Wisner-Pilger threw their third interception of the night, and LCC took over at the Gator 21.

Haisch raced in from 21 yards for his third score of the night. The two point conversion was good, and LCC led 22-14 with 4:50 left.

The Gators had to punt on their next drive, and LCC was able to run out the remaining clock, preserving the 22-14 win.

Both teams turned the ball over three times in the game. Wisner-Pilger had three interceptions, while Laurel-Concord-Coleridge had a fumble and two interceptions.

LCC is now 2-0 on the year, while Wisner-Pilger starts off 0-1.

The Gators host Wakefield next Friday.
