STROMSBURG – In girls high school basketball action Thursday night in Stromsburg, The Sutton Fillies knocked off the home team Cross County Cougars 43-31. Sutton took a 12-5 first quarter lead, and was up 22-14 at halftime. A quick third quarter flurry briefly gave Cross County a lead, but the Fillies turned up the heat late and went on to the 12 point triumph. Kylie Baumert led Sutton (9-2) with 19 game-high points. Cross County (8-3) was led by Erica Stratman and Cortlyn Schaefer with 11 points apiece.
The boys game started as a low-scoring affair, as neither team could get the ball in the hoop. After an early Cross County 11-6 lead, Sutton came back to lead at the half just 14-13, holding the Cougars to just two second quarter points. But Cross County got their offense untracked with 31 second-half points, and pulled away for a 44-29 victory. The Cougars (11-1) got 12 points each from Cory Hollinger, Isaac Noyd, and Carter Seim.
