Special Olympics Results for West Point

On Friday West Point competed in Unified softball at Mahoney park. In the first game West Point claimed a come from behind victory in their last bat to win 3-2 over the Lincoln Blue Sharks. West Point only had a couple of runners reach 3rd base all night so after Lincoln went up by two runs in the top of the 5th inning it wasn’t looking promising. With that being said the bats came alive and with some timely errors by Lincoln, West Point took a 3-2 lead to win the game.

In the second game against Minden Unified Purple West Point once again fell behind by the score 6 to 4 in the top of the 4th inning but came back to tie it with their last bat so the game went another inning. West Point held Minden scoreless in the top of the 5th while scoring 1 run in the bottom of the inning to win 7-6.
Unified softball players-Jonathon Brune, Tim Lierman, Brandon Priestley, James Meiergerd, Ryan Polenske, Brody Schlickbernd, Carter Bramlet, Travis Heller, Marisa Stoffel, Hannah Stoffel, Connor Bramlet, Allison Bramlet and Jordan Paulson. Coaches are Barb Rolf, Stacy Schlickbernd and Curtis Rogers.

On Saturday West Point competed in bocce at Speedway Sports Village in Lincoln. This was the first year the competition was held indoors on turf.
Placing first was the Unified team of Tencie Tonniges & Norma Priestley
Placing second was the Unified team of Brian Rodriguez & Travis Heller.
Placing second was the team of Brandon Priestley & James Meiergerd.
Placing third was the Unified team of Stacy Schlickbernd & Tim Lierman.
Placing third was Ryan Polenske and Ezekiel Wardon.
Placing 4th was Brody Schlickbernd and Jonathon Brune.

On Sunday West Point competed in Unified soccer for the first time ever placing 2nd. West Point won their first game against the Lincoln Mighty Rockets 5-1. In their second game against the Lincoln Silver Sharks West Point lost 2-1 to place second. Members of the soccer team are Jonathon Brune, James Meiergerd, Brody Schlickbernd, Brian Rodriguez, Ryan Polenske, Tim Lierman, Axcele Pascal Biteghe, Davin Gatzemeyer and Daniel Barrios. Coaches for soccer are Cedrick Teghe Bi NDong and Stacy Schlickbernd.
In soccer skills- Thomas Lierman placed 1st.

West Point also competed in Unified Golf of Sunday and the Mahoney Golf Course. Tencie Tonniges and Barb Rolf placed 3rd in their division.

West Point’s next competition will be flag football in September at the Elkhorn Mount Michael Invite.
