Scott Named To Lisa Leslie Award Watch List

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Iowa State women’s basketball junior center Kristin Scott is a candidate for the Lisa Leslie Award, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association announced Friday.

Scott was named to the preseason watch list of 20 women’s basketball student-athletes.

Last season, Scott averaged 12.8 points, 7.1 rebounds and shot 56.1 percent from the floor and a team-high 38.1 percent from long range, knocking down 45 triples. Scott was Iowa State’s second-leading scorer in 2018-19, helping Iowa State one of its most successful seasons in program history with a second-place finish in the Big 12 and a 26-9 overall record.

To start the 2019-20 season, Scott was to the All-Big 12 team and was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team in 2018-19.

Scott is the first Cyclones to appear on the Leslie Award Watch List. She is also the second Cyclone this season to be named to a WBCA position award watch list, joining Ashley Joens who is on the Cheryl Miller Award Watch List. In 2019, Bridget Carleton was named the Cheryl Miller Award winner, becoming the first Cyclone to win a WBCA Position Award and be named to the Naismith Starting Five.

The Selection Committee for the Lisa Leslie Award is composed of top women’s college basketball personnel including media members, head coaches, sports information directors and Hall of Famers. New to the award this season is Fan Voting presented by Dell Technologies in each of the three rounds. By mid-February, the watch list of 20 players for the 2019 Lisa Leslie Award will be narrowed to just 10. In March, five finalists will be presented to Ms. Leslie and the Hall of Fame’s selection committee.
