LINCOLN – Despite a red hot start by Bancroft-Rosalie/Lyons-Decatur, Ponca defeated the Wolverines 55-37 in the C2 girls state basketball semifinals Thursday night at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln.
BRLD ran out to a 10-2 lead to start the game, but the Indians closed the quarter on a 10-0 run, including a bucket at the buzzer to lead 12-10 after the first.
Ponca continued their offensive outburst in the second quarter, outscoring BRLD 18-7, and the Indians took a 30-17 lead into halftime.
Ponca started the third quarter on another quick scoring run and got uo by 18, but BRLD was able to cut the score to 12, before the Indians scored on a layup at the end of the third quarter, making it a 46-32 advantage in favor of Ponca.
BRLD was held scoreless in the fourth quarter until the final 40 seconds of the game, where they had a rush of five points on a bucket by Elise Anderson and a game ending three pointer by Isabella Bonneau.
The final score favored Ponca 55-37.
Ashlyn Kingsbury led Ponca with 21 points, with Samantha Ehlers adding 17.
Jordan Snyder led the Wolverines with 12 points.
Ponca advances to face Crofton for the C2 State Championship on Saturday night.
BRLD is now 21-5 on the season and will play Bridgeport in the Third Place game Friday afternoon at 2:00 at Lincoln Northeast High School.
