YORK – The York College Volleyball team didn’t disappoint its fans Wednesday night as the long-awaited home opener was a stellar victory over Kansas Wesleyan in four sets. York won 25-15, 25-18, 24-26, and 25-23.
Shiloh Lively (SO/Las Vegas, Nev) was the kills leader for the Panthers with 11 on 29 attempts. Tori Schindler (JR/Longmont, Colo) added nine kills herself on .273 hitting percentage. Bailey Johnson (JR/Chico. Calif) added eight kills, along with Rose Tafaoialii (JR/Magna, Utah) connecting on eight kills to go along with her eight blocks.
Behind a fired-up home crowd, the Panthers made quick work in the first two sets. York looked to close the match out in straight sets as they led the third 24-21. However, it was three straight attack errors that gave the Coyotes the momentum to seal the set on a 5-0 run.
York jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the fourth set before Kansas Wesleyan crept back into the game at 14-13. York didn’t relinquish the lead until the Coyotes tied it up at 23 apiece. Tori Schindler pounded down a Kayli Riesgo (SR/Tuscon, Ariz) assist for the lead and then an attack error by the Coyotes sent the team storming onto the court for their first win over Kansas Wesleyan in program history.
Riesgo led the Panthers with 26 assists, followed by Finehika Uhatafe (SO/Bedford, Texas) with 14. The Panthers travel to South Dakota this weekend for a triangular against Dakota Wesleyan and Presentation.
