Oakland-Craig’s Seagren to play Football at South Dakota State

Oakland-Craig senior Wyatt Seagren signed his national letter of intent to play football for South Dakota State during the NCAA early signing period on Wednesday, Dec. 18.

The 6’7, 250 pound Seagren started at tight end and defensive end for the Knights, catching 13 passes for 202 yards and two touchdowns this season, while also recording 26 total tackles on defense, including 14 solo tackles, six tackles for loss, five sacks and two fumble recoveries.

Oakland-Craig head football coach Joe Anderson comments on Seagren as an athlete.

“First of all to play at that level, you have to have a Division I body. When Wyatt walks down the hallway and when coaches came in they were like ‘Oh!’ The kid’s got a Division I body. 6’7, 250, the kid runs well, jumps well and just does a lot of good things, and he showed that on the field,” Anderson said. “This year he really worked hard in the off season in the weight room and really figured out how to use his body. He’s got those long levers and big frame. He really dominated on the line of scrimmage for us. As a tight end, he really set the edge, I think he led our teams in pancakes. He really sealed things off for us and we were able to get outside and go.”

Anderson said Seagren excelled on defense too.

“Defensively, the same thing. He’s a big, long guy. He got his hands on a lot of passes, got a lot of pressure on the quarterback,” Anderson said. “So yeah, he found out and figured out this year how to use his body and had a great season.”

Seagren and the Knights finished this season a perfect 13-0, winning the Class C2 State Championship.

Seagren will play tight end for the Jackrabbits.

South Dakota State is located in Brookings, SD, and competes in the Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). The Jackrabbits are a member of the Missouri Valley Conference and finished this season at 8-5 overall, losing to Northern Iowa in the first round of the FCS playoffs.
