Oakland-Craig Sweeps Home Basketball Doubleheader Against Wisner-Pilger

OAKLAND – Oakland-Craig swept Wisner-Pilger in a home basketball doubleheader aired on 107.9 The Bull Thursday night, Dec. 17. The O-C girls won 55-37 and the O-C boys won 58-38.

In the girls game, both teams took a little while to get their scoring going, but O-C would eventually build a 10-2 lead, before Maggie Schweers converted a three-point play for the Gators as time expired in the quarter, making it 10-5.

The Knights outscored the Gators 19-8 in the second quarter, and Oakland-Craig led 29-13 at halftime.

Wisner-Pilger played an improved second half on offense, but Oakland-Craig still proved to be too much.

O-C led 41-23 after the third quarter. Both teams scored 14 points in the fourth quarter, with the Knights winning 55-37.

O-Cs Sadie Nelson led all scorers with 28 points. Lindsey Kneifl had 16 for W-P.

Oakland-Craig got out to a red hot start in the boys game, taking an early 13-0 lead. Wisner-Pilger finally scored its first points of the game with 17 seconds left in the first quarter, making it 13-2.

The Gators came alive in the second quarter, scoring 15 points, but O-C led at halftime 29-17.

Wisner-Pilger opened the third quarter with a 7-0 scoring run, and would eventually cut their deficit to seven points, But O-C was able to pull away again, and led 41-20 after the third period.

The Knights then outscored the Gators 17-8 in the fourth, winning the game 58-38.

O-Cs Gunnar Ray led all scorers with 21 points and Caden Nelson added 13.

Spencer Batenhorst had 10 points for Wisner-Pilger.

Both Wisner-Pilger teams are back at it on Friday, hosting Wayne.

Both Oakland-Craig teams will host Madison on Saturday.
