Northeast softball unable to sweep doubleheader on Sunday

MASON CITY, Iowa – The Northeast Community College softball team had a tough time scoring runs on Sunday, falling to North Iowa Area Community College, 8-0 and 11-3 in Mason City, Iowa. 

The Hawks (7-11, 1-5 ICCAC) were held to three hits in the first game of the doubleheader. Taylor Nicolay (Nebraska City, Neb.), Brianna Aguilera (Pierce, Neb.) and Chantel Julian (Roseville, Calif.) each had a hit in the loss. Greta Lindberg (Tekamah, Neb.) was dealt the loss, tossing three innings, allowing two earned runs off one hit. She walked seven batters. 

The Hawks managed to plate three runs in the final game on Sunday, but it wasn’t enough. Down by seven runs, Northeast put up three runs in the top of the third inning. Lindberg hit a home run with three RBI. Aguilera added two hits and Nicolay had a double. Lindberg was the losing pitcher of record, throwing one and one-third innings, allowing three earned runs off one hit. She walked four and struck out one. 

Northeast visits Iowa Western Community College in a doubleheader at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
