NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College softball team grabbed two wins on Wednesday, topping Concordia University JV, 5-0 and 12-11 at Ta-Ha-Zouka Park in Norfolk.
Kierra Stewart (Dodge, Neb.) tossed a complete-game shutout in the first game of the doubleheader. Stewart allowed only two hits, while striking out five batters and walking two. The Hawks (3-5) tallied five runs in the bottom of the sixth, keeping the Bulldogs in check for much of the game.
Alyssa Turner (Columbus, Neb.) went 3-for-4 with a double, while Greta Lindberg (Tekamah, Neb.) went 2-for-3 with a double.
In the final game of the nightcap, the Bulldogs took a 9-6 heading into the sixth inning, before the Hawks exploded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Brianna Aguilera (Pierce, Neb.) hit a walk-off single to seal the victory for the Hawks.
Aguilera went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs and a double and a home run. Maggie Berryman (Norfolk, Neb.) was 2-for-4 with two RBI, a home run and a run. Turner added two hits, while Vada Kruse (Norfolk, Neb.) had a triple. Alondra Martinez (Grand Island, Neb.) earned the win in relief, tossing an inning in the top of the seventh.
The Hawks welcome Mount Marty University JV for a doubleheader at 1 and 3 p.m. Monday in Norfolk.
