Northeast Baseball wins at Kansas City Kansas on Saturday

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The No. 20 Northeast Community College baseball team got back in the win column on Saturday in the final game of the doubleheader, toppling Kansas City Kansas Community College, 17-2 in Kansas City, Kan.

The Hawks (6-9) fell earlier in the day, 6-3 and 15-1 on Friday.

On Friday, the Hawks committed five errors and were out-hit, 19-6. Colin Lynam (Springfield, Neb.) went 2-for-2 with a double and a walk. Brennen Bales (Nebraska City, Neb.) and Jayden Sinju (Murray, Utah) both recorded a double.

Nate Zyzda (Sioux City, Iowa) was tagged with the loss after tossing three innings, allowing six earned runs off 13 hits.

Four runs in the first two innings plagued the Hawks in the first game of the doubleheader on Saturday. Northeast managed to score late in the game, but KCKCC held on for the win.

Spencer Weber (Bennington, Neb.) went 2-for-3 with a run and two doubles.

Chris Mazzini (Parker, Colo.) took the loss on the mound after throwing two and one-third innings, giving up three earned runs off two hits, while striking out four batters and walking three.

Five runs in the second inning of the final game and seven more in the top of the fifth proved to be the difference for the Hawks.

Bales paced the Hawks going 4-for-5 with a home run, a double, three runs and two RBI. Houston Fogelstrom (Omaha, Neb.) went 3-for-4, with a home run, two doubles, three runs and two RBI. Lynam was 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run and an RBI. Weber went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, while Mills Macek (Blair, Neb.) was 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run. Cooper Whitt (Knoxville, Tenn.) added a pinch-hit home run.

Tanner Olmstead (Sioux Falls, S.D.) secured the win after tossing five innings, allowing two earned runs off seven hits, while striking out six.

The Hawks hit the road to face McCook Community College for a doubleheader starting a 2 p.m. March 4 in McCook, Neb.
