NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College baseball team couldn’t find its groove on a windy Wednesday afternoon. The Hawks (9-11, 3-3 ICCAC) came up short against NJCAA DI No. 9 Iowa Western Community College, 18-3 and 15-1 at Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk.

The Reivers took a 10-3 lead after two innings in the first game of the doubleheader and never looked back. The Hawks were able to put two runs in the bottom of the first and another one in the bottom of the second after an RBI single from Colin Lynam (Springfield, Neb.)

Lynam went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a double, while Whitt was 2-for-3 with two runs and a double. Parker Dorrance (Arvada, Colo.) had two hits and an RBI, while Tyler Monroe (Lincoln, Neb.) added a triple. Chris Mazzini (Parker, Colo.) was dealt the loss after tossing one and one-thirds innings, allowing eight earned runs off eight hits. He walked two batters and struck out one.

Tied 1-1 until the sixth inning, the Reivers exploded for seven runs in the top of the sixth and seven more in the top of the seventh.

Whitt and Dorrance each had two hits. Christian Carew (Parker, Colo.) took the loss after throwing five and one-thirds innings. He allowed five earned runs off five hits, while walking four and striking out one.

The Hawks look to get back in the win column when they travel to Southwestern Community College for a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday in Creston, Iowa.
