MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – Scoring runs wasn’t an issue for the Northeast Community College baseball team on Friday.
The Hawks (15-13, 9-5 ICCAC) received a solid-pitching performance from Preston Tenney (Parker, Colo.) in the first game of the doubleheader to defeat the Tigers, 5-3. In Game 2, the Hawks received four home runs throughout the lineup to defeat Marshalltown, 30-13 in Marshalltown, Iowa.
Tenney tossed a complete game in Game 1, allowing only four hits and two earned runs. He struck out nine batters and walked two in the 114-pitch effort. The Hawks took a 3-2 lead after three innings and received insurance runs in the top of the fifth and sixth innings.
Sam Manwarren (Overland Park, Kan.) went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a double. Tyler Monroe (Lincoln, Neb.) was 2-for-4 with a run, a stolen base and a double. Cooper Whitt (Knoxville, Tenn.) had a home run and Parker Dorrance (Arvada, Colo.) added a double.
The Hawks scurried to a 13-6 lead after three innings, but kept pouring on the runs as they put up a seven spot in the sixth and a six spot in the seventh. Cade Lynam (Springfield, Neb.) had one of his best days in a Hawks uniform, going 4-for-6, with three runs, three RBI and a double. Manwarren went 3-for-5 with five RBI, three runs and two home runs. Zane Zielinski (Chicago, Ill.) was 3-for-6 with three RBI, a run and a double, while Anthony Silvera Jr. (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) added two doubles and two RBI. Colin Lynam (Springfield, Neb.) and Whitt added a home run, while Monroe had a double. Maximo DeLeon (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) was 2-for-3 with five runs and four stolen bases. Jeremy Schneider (Lovell, Wyo.) picked up the win, tossing three innings, allowing three earned runs off five hits. He struck out two and walked two. Clay Beaumont (Tekamah, Neb.) pitched a solid three innings, allowing only an earned run off two hits, while sitting down nine batters.
The Hawks finish the four-game series with a doubleheader at 12 p.m. tomorrow in Marshalltown.
