LAMAR, Colo. – The 11th-ranked Western Nebraska Community College volleyball team improved to 22-5 on the season with a South Sub-region sweep over Lamar Community College 25-22, 25-13, 25-18 Thursday evening in Lamar, Colorado.
Karen Cordero and Olivia Schaub led the team in kills and solid performances in the hitting area. Cordero finished the match with 17 kills while also getting nine digs, a solo block, five points, and two aces.
Schaub tallied 14 kills with six digs and a solo block.
Anuhea Kaohi and Angel Nahinu each had five kills, while Macey Boggs, Elli Winkler and Laura Ferrao each had a kill.
Andrea Tsvetanova finished with 23 set assists. Tsvetanova also had six digs, three points, and two aces. Boggs finished with 10 set assists, six points, two aces, and two digs.
Also for the Cougars, Anabelle Gillen had three digs and five points; Holleigh Jaime had two digs; Mariah Fukamoto had 14 digs and four points; and Winkler had four digs.
WNCC will wrap up the regular season on Friday when they travel to Trinidad, Colorado, to face Trinidad State Junior College. WNCC will enter the regional tournament and play Wednesday evening in Casper, Wyoming. The top two teams will qualify for the NJCAA national tournament mid-April in West Plains, Missouri.
The Region IX tournament pairing will be released early next week.
