Morningside College junior guard Sierra Mitchell was recognized by the Great Plains Athletic Conference Tuesday, Jan. 14.
Named the leagues womens basketball Player of the Week, the Pleasant Hill, Iowa native averaged 22 points per game as head coach Jamie Sales squad ran its current win streak to four straight with victories over Bellevue University (95-67) and Northwestern College (76-66) during the period of Jan. 6-12. Mitchell also increased her run of successive contests with multiple made three-point baskets to 16 straight and a roll of double-figure scoring appearances to six in a row. Included in that impressive span was helping clinch the Jan. 11 decision over Northwestern with six made free throws in the final 14 seconds.
Its Mitchells second time being honored during 2019-20.
