Morningside Softball sweeps Saturday Doubleheader

ABERDEEN, S.D. – A day after a near-perfect bullpen performance, Morningside College sophomore pitcher Katie Wurtz (Omaha, Neb.) showed off some more of her wares Saturday, Feb. 15.

Wurtz stymied the Vikings of Valley City State University to the tune of four hits and no runs over five frames while striking out three. Senior Hallie Misiaszek (SR/Mitchell, S.D.) (Mitchell, S.D.) was just as tough out of the bullpen, fanning one and allowing only two hits over the final two innings of a 6-0 Morningside College victory. It was more of the same for head coach Jessica Jones-Sitzmanns No. 22-ranked crew in game two, as freshman Lisa Bolton (FR/American Canyon, CA) (American Canyon, Calif.), Misiaszek, and junior Alex Nelson (JR/Sioux Falls, SD) (Sioux Falls, S.D.) combined to hold Dakota State University to a run on seven hits while striking out seven in a 5-1 decision.

Msides offense came up big when it was needed at Presentation Colleges Dome. Junior Carson Cameron (JR/Herman, NE) (Herman, Neb.) tallied a two-hit game with a run scored and freshman Rylee Olson (FR/Hills, Minn.) (Hills, Minn.) clouted a two-run single in the nightcap. Cameron turned in a highlight-reel-worthy day with three hits, one of which was a double, and three runs scored to star in game one to go along with sophomore Morgan Nixon (SO/Omaha, NE) (Omaha, Neb.) who also had three hits and sophomore Josie Baxter (SO/Lincoln, NE) (Omaha, Neb.) who drilled a pair of doubles and drove in three runs.

Morningside returns to the Dome Friday and Saturday, Feb. 21 and 22.
