MAYVILLE, N.D. – A 10-run outburst over the second through fifth frames sent Morningside College to a 10-5 victory over Mayville State University Sunday, March 14.

Junior outfielder Levi Davidson (JR/Dakota City, Neb.) and freshman infielder Brian Garcia (FR/Burbank, Calif.) (Burbank, Calif.) led the Mustangs 11-hit offensive against Comet pitching, as they had three safeties each. Freshman catcher Gunnar Kale (FR/Merced, Calif.) (Merced, Calif.) came up big for head coach Adam Boeves squad, too, with three RBI.

In a rare starting opportunity, junior southpaw Jordan Kyle (JR/Lake Park, Iowa) (Lake Park, Iowa) made the most of his chance. He picked up the win, going three innings with five strikeouts.

On the four-game set, Morningside, returning home with an 8-14 mark after going 2-2 against MSU, dropped a narrow 5-2 decision in Sundays lid-lifter. The mound tandem of freshman Wade Canaday (FR/Marshalltown, Iowa) (Marshalltown, Iowa) and junior Jake Prewitt (JR/Wenatchee, Wash.) (Wenatchee, Wash.) limited the hosts to four earned runs and struck out six over six innings of work. However, the Comets staff was just as difficult for the Mustangs to solve at the dish, posting ten strikeouts off starter Parker Stohrs arm.

Mside is slated to begin the 2021 Great Plains Athletic Conference campaign with four games at Mount Marty University in Yankton, S.D., Saturday and Sunday, March 20 and 21.
