MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – For a second successive start, freshman pitcher Justin Lottman (FR/Lincoln, NE) (Lincoln, Neb.) supplied sparkling numbers for Morningside College Wednesday, Feb. 26.

The Mustangs newcomer ran his scoreless innings string to nine with two sublime frames against North Star Athletic Association foe Mayville State University inside U.S. Bank Stadium. Lottman struck out four Comets and allowed only one free pass and two hits in two innings of work. Fellow North Star High School alum Aiden Bishop (FR/Lincoln, NE) and sophomore Camden Parks (JR/Omaha, NE) (Omaha, Neb.) followed his form, allowing just one earned run on five hits and combining for 10 whiffs.

Head coach Adam Boeves stout staff came back with more impressive numbers early in game two. Junior Jake Prewitt (JR/Wenatchee, WA) (Wenatchee, Wash.) and freshman Wade Canaday (FR/Marshalltown, IA) (Marshalltown, Iowa) shut down MSU without allowing a hit over four innings, striking six together in the process. Unfortunately, what the Maroon hurlers accomplished didnt lead to Morningside stopping its recent skid, as the Comets scored a run in the bottom of the seventh in the opener to win 1-0 and rallied from a 2-0 deficit in the nightcap with a five-run sixth and seventh inning comeback to complete the sweep with a 5-2 decision.

As they did towards the tail end of a Feb. 21 and 22 trip to Joplin, Mo., the bats reflected the temperatures outdoors. Junior outfielder Levi Davidson (JR/Dakota City, NE) (Dakota City, Neb.) headlined the output with a double in game one and two RBI in game two.

Mside (6-10) steps out of play until March 6-10 when they take their annual spring trip to Tucson, Ariz.
