TUCSON. ARIZ. – Getting up off the diamond from a 9-0 deficit after two and a half innings, Morningside College produced another spring break trip rally Monday, March 9.
Adding in to a recent trend where head coach Adam Boeve‘s team has played the role of cardiac kids, the Maroon posted a seven-run third and two-run fourth for a 9-9 tie and then added one in the sixth and two in the eight to overcome Waldorf University 12-9. Mside, moving to 4-1 in the Grand Canyon State and 10-11 overall, was guided by the bullpen pitching effort of freshman Aiden Bishop (FR/Lincoln, NE) (Lincoln, Neb.) who fired five innings of three-hit ball at the Warriors while no allowing a run.
The Mustangs’ offense was led by the trio of junior designated hitter Adam Carlson (JR/Baldwin City, KS) (Baldwin City, Kan.), junior outfielder Reece Blay (JR/ Council Bluffs, IA) (Council Bluffs, Iowa), and sophomore outfielder Hunter Hope (SO/Sioux City, IA) (Sioux City, Iowa). Carlson rapped three singles, scored twice and drove in three; Blay launched a two-run home run, and Hope blasted a three-run bomb.
Morningside, looking to leave Arizona with their record back at .500, concludes their spring break tour with a clash against North Star Athletic Association foe Dakota State University Tuesday, March 10. First pitch is 2:30 p.m.
