Wayne State College head football coach John McMenamin has announced several hirings to his staff for the 2020 season.
Logan Masters returns to Wayne State and will serve as offensive coordinator, current Wildcat assistant coach Scott McLaughlin has been named defensive coordinator, Austin Flyger is the new special teams coordinator and defensive line coach while Quincy Griffith is the new offensive line coach at Wayne State College.
Masters, Wayne States all-time leading receiver, makes a return to the Wildcat sidelines after coaching the last three seasons at Chadron State where he was offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach this season after serving as wide receivers coach and game operations manager the previous two years.
Masters got his coaching start working six years on the Wildcat sidelines from 2010-2016 starting out as tight ends and wide receivers coach then moving his way up to offensive coordinator when McMenamin departed Wayne State for Central Missouri.
A native of Storm Lake, Iowa, Masters was a standout wide receiver at WSC from 2006-09 and ended his career with nearly every Wildcat receiving record producing 258 catches for 3,863 yards, catching at least two passes in 46 consecutive games.
McLaughlin just completed his 13th season on the Wildcat staff including his fifth year as defensive coordinator at Wayne State. He was promoted to defensive coordinator following the 2014 season after serving six seasons as special teams coordinator and linebackers coach and worked the previous four years as defensive line coach.
Flyger joins the Wildcat staff after serving two stints at Northern State along with coaching seven years at Southern Illinois and one at North Dakota. Most recently, Flyger served this past season as defensive coordinator at Northern State. He served seven years at Southern Illinois where he was defensive line coach and added special teams coordinator to his title in 2017.
A former standout player at then Augustana College (2000-03), Flyger got his coaching start at the University of North Dakota in 2007, then was a graduate assistant at Southern Illinois for two years and in 2010 began his first stint (two years) at Northern State serving as defensive line coach.
Griffith comes to Wayne State after working with McMenamin last season as a graduate assistant/tight ends coach at Central Missouri helping the Mules to an 11-2 record and quarter-finals of the NCAA Division II playoffs.
Other coaching stops for Griffith include the 2018 season at Illinois Wesleyan coaching linebackers and taught high school at Carlisle High School in Iowa during the 2017-18 school year.
Griffith is a native of Ankeny, Iowa and played college football at Wartburg where he was Second Team All-Conference as a junior and senior at offensive line.
Wayne State finished the 2019 season with a 4-7 overall record and 2-5 mark in the NSIC South Division.
