(Listen) Friday Night Preview

It’s another big week of high school football around the region that now includes the Wyoming schedule being added to the list.

Here at KNEB we’ll have three games for you tonight including both Scottsbluff and Gering making long road trips back east.

Let’s get to the Friday Night Preview…

#2 Scottsbluff (1-0) at #9 Hastings (1-0)…Last week a tale of two halves for Scottsbluff as they were even 21-21 at home with North Platte at halftime before looking like near vintage Scottsbluff in the second half as they pulled away for the 42-21 win. Running back Jacob Krul went off for over 200 yards rushing and three touchdowns while quarterback Sabastian Harsh finished with over 100 yards on the ground with three touchdowns.

Hastings pulled off a stunner. After dropping 17 straight games to McCook the Tigers were able to get over the hump, on the road no less, and beat the Bison 30-7. Here’s what Scottsbluff head coach, Jud Hall had to say about that big win for Hastings.

In the Scottsbluff win last week the defensive player of the game was Jack Darnell. He really filled up the stat sheet and always seemed to be in the right spot. Darnell has watched the film this week to check out Hastings quarterback Jarrett Synek, who was excellent against McCook.

Scottsbluff won this matchup last year 48-14.

Coverage tonight on 101.7 The Trail and kneb.com will start at 5:30 with kickoff at 6 p.m.

Gering (0-1) at Seward (0-1)…Both teams dropped openers last week. Gering fell at home to Northwest in a weather shortened game by the final of 43-0 while Seward, in a game involving two teams that lost a lot of seniors, dropped one to Waverly 28-7. Gering coach Josh Hiatt on one area he’d like to see his team show improved play tonight.

Despite the week one loss Seward head coach, Jamie Opfer, feels his team has the ceiling of a top team in Class B.

Clearly another tough game to start the year for a Gering team just trying to find some traction early on. Coverage tonight on KNEB AM 960, 100.3 FM, and kneb.com will start at 5:30 with kickoff at 6 pm.

Chadron (1-0) at Alliance (0-1)…Our third game at the station tonight is our TV only game with the Cardinals, off a big win over Gordon-Rushville, playing at Alliance.

For the Bulldogs last week, they had to be pleased with the overall effort, especially in the first half. Playing at York, a state semifinalist from a year ago, the game was tied 9-9 at half before the Dukes took control and pulled away for a 30-9 win.

Coverage tonight on KNEB.tv, Allo channel 15, and Mobius channel 1500 will start at 6:45 with kickoff at 7 pm.

Rest of the Nebraska schedule:

Bayard (1-0) at Garden County (0-1)

Bridgeport (0-1) at Wood River (0-1)…Bulldogs dropped a 14-13 game to Sidney while Wood River was hammered by Doniphan-Trumbull 58-0.

Crawford (1-0) at Potter-Dix (1-0)

Hemingford (1-0) at South Loup (0-1)…Bobcats beat Mullen in their opener while South Loup got beat by Sutherland.

Leyton/Banner County (0-1) at Morrill (0-1)…Lions WR Blake Lofink finished with three touchdown catches last week in the Morrill season opening loss at Maxwell. He figures to be one of the top pass catchers in the region this season. Leyton was able to score 26 points, something to build on from their loss to Bayard in week one.

Mitchell (0-1) at Southeast WY

Sidney (1-0) at Gordon-Rushville (0-1)…The Red Raiders got started with that hard fought win over Bridgeport while the Mustangs are hoping to bounce back after taking one on the chin against Chadron.
