PENDER – Wayne edged Thurston/Cuming County 3-1 in high school baseball played in Pender and aired on 107.9 The Bull on Tuesday, April 13.
Wayne scored the first run of the game in the top of the second inning, taking an early 1-0 lead.
TC answered right back in the bottom half of the inning. Braxton Volk led off with a stand-up double, and was able to score three batters later, thanks to an RBI basehit by Zach Hegge.
The game was tied 1-1 heading into the top of the 7th, when Wayne scored two runs, taking a 3-1 lead.
The TC Thunder had a baserunner in the bottom of the 7th, but were unable to score, making the final 3-1 in favor of Wayne.
Spencer Rabbass took the loss on the mound for the Thunder, throwing a complete game, allowing three runs on 8 hits and a walk, striking out 7.
Hegge had an RBI single for the Thunder, Volk recorded a double, with Nate Breitbarth and Brennan Ferguson each adding base hits.
The TC Thunder are now 2-6 and next host Crete on Thursday.
