February 10th, 2020 | Beth Rogers

IRVING, Texas – Iowa State sophomore Ashley Joens claimed her fifth Big 12 Player of the Week honor of her career, the league announced Monday. Joens has claimed more Big 12 weekly honors than anyone in the league this season, as nobody has captured more than two.

Ashley Joens had a stellar week, as she helped lead Iowa State to back-to-back wins over Oklahoma State and Oklahoma. Against the Cowgirls, Joens tallied 23 points and 14 rebounds for her 11th double-double on the year. She added three assists and one steal to her stat line.

Against the Sooners, Joens suffered a dislocated shoulder midway through the third quarter. The sophomore, left the game only to return late in the third. Joens fought through the pain to collect seven points and haul in seven rebounds in the fourth quarter alone to give ISU the 63-59 edge over OU. She finished with 17 points and 15 boards, for her 13th double-double of the season. Last weeks wins were crucial as the Cyclones pushed a game ahead and into sole ownership of fourth place in the Big 12 standings.

Joens and the Cyclones are back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. in Austin, when they take on Texas.
