Iowa State Women lose to Baylor

AMES, Iowa – No. 12 Iowa State fell to Baylor, 76-70, Saturday evening at Hilton Coliseum. The Cyclones fall to 15-6 overall and 7-4 in Big 12 action, while Baylor improves to 16-6 overall and 8-3 in conference play.

Nyamer Diew and Ashley Joens combined for 48 points in the loss. Diew tallied a career-high 25 points, while Joens chipped in 23. Emily Ryan dished out a season-high 12 assists for the Cyclones.

How It Happened
The Cyclones trailed by two at the half despite Joens’ 15 first-half points. ISU owned a 29-27 lead but didn’t make a field goal the final 4:14 of the half as it entered the break trailing at the half at Hilton Coliseum for the first time this season.

Diew scored 13 points in the third quarter and Joens put the Cyclones in front by one with a free throw late in the third as the teams went to the fourth with ISU leading 49-48.

The Cyclones held a 55-52 lead with 8:20 left in the fourth quarter but the Bears went on a 24-15 run the rest of the way.

Top Performers
Diew finished 10-for-13 from the field and 3-for-4 behind the arc to post her first career game eclipsing 20 points. She finished with 25 points and also chipped in five rebounds.

Joens posted her 10th 20-point game this season and the 67th of her career, finishing with 23.

The Cyclones are back in action next Saturday at West Virginia at 5 p.m.
