Iowa State Women drop home game to Horned Frogs

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State womens basketball team (9-6, 1-3 Big 12) received a pair of double-double performances from Ashley Joens and Kristin Scott, but couldnt hold off a fourth-quarter run by TCU (12-3, 3-1 Big 12), falling to the Horned Frogs, 77-74.

How it Happened
From the jump, it was a tightly contested game between the Cyclones and the Horned Frogs. In the first quarter, there were nine lead changes alone. Scott took the lid off the basket from deep for the Cyclones, canning a three on ISUs final possession of the first quarter to put Iowa State up 21-17 at the first break.

After starting the game just 1-8 from three, Iowa State connected on three consecutive triples, opening a 37-32 lead and forcing a TCU timeout. The Cyclones finished 4-7 from three in the second quarter and rattled in 8-13 attempts from the field. Joens led ISUs offensive attack, tallying 16 first-half points on 7-9 shooting. At halftime, Iowa State led 42-37.

TCU held an advantage in three-point shooting in the game. The Horned Frogs cashed in on 10-22 attempts, while the Cyclones finished the game shooting 7-21 from behind the arc.

Heading to the fourth quarter, Iowa State owned a 60-53 lead over TCU. The Horned Frogs opened the fourth quarter on a 10-2 run, capturing their first lead since the first quarter. With glimpses of the first quarter, it turned into a seesaw affair, with both teams exchanging fourth-quarter leads. TCU took a 67-66 lead at the 4:33 mark and never relinquished it. The Horned Frogs went on to capture a 77-74 victory.

Players of Note
Ashley Joens was great on the offensive end in this one. She totaled 31 points in the contest on 10-18 shooting. She recorded her seventh double-double on the year, collecting 15 boards. She also dished out two assists.

Kristin Scott recorded her second double-double of the season, recording 14 points and hauling in 13 rebounds. She was active on the defensive end as well, swatting four TCU shots and nabbing a steal.

Madison Wise made her return to the court tonight. She tallied two points and a rebound in 20 minutes of action.
