AMES, Iowa – Iowa State (3-3) was able to get itself back in the win column against UNI (2-5) winning the match 3-1 (25-18, 25-19, 24-26, 25-21) Tuesday night in Hilton Coliseum.
The Cyclones were led by Eleanor Holthaus who posted her second straight double-double with 12 kills and a career-high 21 digs. Piper Mauck also posted her third-straight double-double, recording a season-high 48 assists and 10 digs. Freshmen also led the way in attack and defense, as Annie Hatch had a career-best 16 kills and Michal Schuler marked her debut at libero with a career-high 24 digs.
Set One: Iowa State 25 UNI 18
Iowa State started the set off hot, as they jumped out to an 8-3 lead which forced a Northern Iowa timeout. UNI kept it close for a while, but ISU was eventually able to earn a comfortable eight-point lead and later secure the set 25-18. The Panthers were held to .160 hitting for the set, led by 11 digs by Izzy Enna. As for the Cyclone offense, they were led by Annie Hatch, who had five kills.
Set Two: Iowa State 25 UNI 19
Neither team was able to get any separation early as the two went back and forth, resulting in eight ties and four lead changes all before the score was 12-10 Iowa State. The Cyclones were finally able to get some breathing room when they gained a six-point lead at 19-13. Iowa State ended the set with four-straight points, all coming from blocks with three by Avery Rhodes. Hatch had a key solo block that lead to two straight Holthaus-Rhodes tandem blocks to end the set.
Set Three: UNI 26 Iowa State 24
The Cyclones started the set where they left off in the previous one. They earned a 13-7 lead early only to see UNI rally and keep the match close all the way through. The Panthers were able to fight off a match point and came back to steal a set victory with a score of 26-24. The Cyclones’ attack was led by Holthaus, who had six kills in the set.
Set Four: Iowa State 25 UNI 21
The Panthers looked to continue their momentum early, but were met with resistance by Iowa State as the score stayed close. Iowa State opened up the largest lead of the set with a five-point lead late, 23-18. They eventually won the set and match with a kill from Annie Hatch at 25-21. The Cyclones hit well in the third set at a .375 hitting percentage, with Mauck dishing out 16 assists. Hatch and Holthaus each had six kills in the final frame.

Eleanor Holthaus. The Iowa State sophomore had her second-straight double-double for the Cyclones, as she recorded 12 kills to go along with a career-high 21 digs. She also notched two aces and three blocks in the win.
With their four-game home-stand complete, the Cyclones will travel to Boone, North Carolina to participate in the Appalachian Invitational beginning on Friday. Iowa State plays two matches on Friday, first playing Western Carolina at 11 a.m. Central and then hosts Appalachian State at 5:30 p.m. Central.
