The Cyclones grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Freshman Kali Gose earned a lead-off walk to open the inning, and was moved over to third on a sacrifice bunt and a fly out. Gose then raced home to score the game’s first run on a dropped third strike that extended the inning.
A three-run top of the fourth inning allowed Iowa State to take control. Kasey Simpson and Logan Schaben collected back-to-back base hits to lead-off the inning, followed by a walk for Carli Spelhaug to load the bases. Mikayla Ramos would then earn a two-out, bases-loaded walk to push the first run of the inning across. Freshman Milaysia Ochoa then stepped to the plate and drove a two-RBI double down the right field line, scoring Schaben and Spelhaug.
Texas Tech scored its lone run of the game in the home half of the fourth, taking advantage of an ISU fielding error to cut the Cyclone lead to 4-1.
Ellie Spelhaug and the Cyclone defense cruised to the finish from that point forward. With the win, Spelhaug improved to 11-5 on the season.
