Iowa State Softball loses series finale to Oklahoma

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State (22-8, 0-3 Big 12) fell 22-2 to No. 1 Oklahoma (25-0, 3-0 Big 12) in the series finale vs. the Sooners on Sunday at the Cyclone Sports Complex.

The Sooners started fast once again in Sundays series finale, taking a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a Grace Green RBI single, followed by a sacrifice fly by Lynnsie Elam. Two more runs crossed home plate in the second on a Jocelyn Alo two-RBI double, putting OU in front 5-0.

Walks for Alesia Ranches and Natalie Wellet, to go with a base hit by center fielder Kali Gose, loaded the bases for the Cyclones in the bottom of the second inning. Senior Skyler Ramos then collected ISUs first RBI of the day by drawing a walk to score Ranches from third. Ramos won a 10-pitch battle vs. OU starter Nicole May to plate Iowa States first run.

Oklahoma answered with five runs in the top of the third, including a grand slam by Tiare Jennings to put Oklahoma in front, 10-1.

Ranches once again helped boost the Cyclone offense with a RBI double to right center, scoring Milaysia Ochoa.

However, the unbeaten Sooners tallied 10 fourth-inning runs, including a three-run home run from Mackenzie Donihoo. Two additional runs crossed home plate in the top of the fifth to put a cap on an explosive day for the nations No. 1 offense.

The Cyclones will travel to Des Moines, Iowa on Tuesday to take on Drake at 5 p.m. CT at Buel Field.
