AUSTIN, Texas – The Iowa State mens basketball team (9-12, 2-6 Big 12) fell late at Texas (14-7, 4-4 Big 12), 72-68. The Cyclones held a lead throughout the second half until an 11-0 Longhorn run in the games final two minutes pushed UT in front for good.

How It Happened
The Longhorns scored the games first seven points before the Cyclones settled into what would become a back-and-forth affair. Iowa State found its footing in part thanks to an early boost from freshman Tre Jackson in his first career start. Jackson knocked down a pair of early 3-pointers, the second of which cut UTs lead to 16-13 with 11:49 to play in the first half.

Iowa State would then surge in front for the first time, blitzing the Longhorns with an 18-4 run during which five different Cyclones scored. A Michael Jacobson jumper with 3:12 to play gave ISU its largest lead of the half at 31-25 with 3:12 remaining. Texas scored the halfs final five points to make it a 31-30 Cyclone advantage at intermission.

Tyrese Haliburton lead the way with nine first-half points, while the trio of Zion GriffinPrentiss Nixon and Solomon Young combined to contribute 13 points off the bench before halftime.

Jacobson scored five points early in the second half to give the Cyclones a lift after the break, followed by yet another crucial Jackson triple to give Iowa State its largest lead of the afternoon at 49-41 with 13:24 to play.

The see-saw affair continued, with the Cyclones retaining the lead until a Jericho Sims dunk with 1:57 to play sparked the decisive 11-0 Texas run. Courtney Ramey knocked down a triple at the 1:06 mark to give Texas its first lead of the second half at 66-65. Back-to-back trips to the free throw line would then seal the deal for UT. The Longhorns would go on to win, 72-68.

Player of Note
Tyrese Haliburton tied for the team-high with 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field. The sophomore guard added five rebounds, five assists and three steals in 40 minutes of action.
