AMES, Iowa – No. 10 Kansas used an early 9-2 run to take the lead for good Tuesday night, as the Jayhawks beat No. 20 Iowa State 70-61 at Hilton Coliseum.

Iowa State drops to 16-6 overall and 3-6 in the Big 12 with the loss, while Kansas improved to 18-3 overall and 7-1 in league play. The Cyclones return to action Saturday at Texas, with tipoff slated for 1 p.m. on the Longhorn Network.

Izaiah Brockington led the Cyclones with 24 points, while Tre Jackson and Gabe Kalscheur added 12 and 11 respectively. Brockington had eight rebounds, while Caleb Grill dished out five assists. David McCormack led the Jayhawks with 14 points and 14 assists.

The Cyclones shot 41 percent from the floor, but were 5-of-22 (23 %) from 3-point range. Kansas had a 37-26 advantage on the glass, while outscoring Iowa State 34-22 in the paint.

Iowa State went on an 8-0 run in less than two minutes, highlighted by a fastbreak dunk by Brockington, to cut the Kansas to lead to 24-22 with 3:56 left in the first half. The Jayhawks countered with back-to-back dunks of their own and took a 30-24 lead at halftime.

Kansas opened the second half on a 10-4 run, taking a 40-28 lead with 15:25 to play. Back-to-back 3-pointers by Jackson and Kalscheur with 13:19 to play cut the Kansas lead to five. Kansas answered with a 10-3 run, pushing the lead back to double digits until the final seconds.
