HS softball: Gering stays red hot, Scottsbluff splits with Alliance

The Gering softball team is on a heater right now. Last night they won for the twelfth time in their last thirteen games as they won on the road at Chadron 9-0 in five innings.

Star player Maddie Wiese was sharp once again in the circle with eight strikeouts in the complete game shutout. Wiese also did work at the dish as she homered and was on base all four times.

Gering also got multi-hit games from Brylee Dean and Kiana Island. Island drove in three runs.

Gering is now 16-6 on the season and they’ll play at quad in Ogallala on Thursday.

Scottsbluff and Alliance split

We had both of these games on KNEB AM 960, 100.3 FM, and kneb.com last night as the first game was the continuation of a suspended game at SHS from a few weeks back.

They picked the game up in the bottom of the fourth inning with the Bearcats leading 5-1. The Bearcats would score two in the fourth, one in the fifth, and then in the bottom of the sixth inning Brady Laucomer walked it off with a two-run shot to center field to give Scottsbluff the 10-1 win.

Kymber Shallenberger was the winning pitcher with a complete game. She didn’t allow an earned run.

In game two Shallenberger and the defense with a rocky first inning that included hitting two batters and then two errors in the field as Alliance scored three unearned runs to take the early lead.

Scottsbluff would battle back to score single runs in the second, sixth, and seventh innings to tie it up.

But in the bottom of the seventh Alliance would load the bases and the winning run would come in to score on a base on balls as the Bulldogs win 4-3.

Scottsbluff is now 6-12 and they’ll be at Ogallala tomorrow as well.
