NORFOLK, Neb. – Despite a slow start in the first quarter, the Northeast Community College women’s basketball team toppled Grand View University JV, 80-56 on Friday night at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.

The Hawks (20-2, 2-0 ICCAC) got off to a slow start early in the first quarter, but a stout defensive effort forced the Vikings to shoot only 30 percent from the field in the game, including just seven points in the second quarter.

Northeast did most of its damage under the hoop, thanks to a double-double by Emina Hadzihusejnovic (Mostar, Bosnia) with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Kyla Moore (Norfolk, Neb.) dropped 22 points and five rebounds, while Julia Carbonell (Barcelona, Spain) added 14 points and Beth Matas (Girona, Spain) pitched in 10 points and seven assists.

The Hawks shot 40 percent from the field and 91 percent from the free-throw line.

Northeast jumps back into ICCAC play, taking on Iowa Western Community College at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Reiver Arena in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
