Hawks come away with three wins in Illinois

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Northeast Community College volleyball team headed east on Friday and Saturday and came away with three wins at the Lincoln Land Tournament in Springfield, Ill.

The Hawks (18-15, 6-1 ICCAC) defeated No. 12 Moraine Valley Community College, 25-18, 25-23 and 25-14 and Lincoln Land Community College, 25-20, 25-17 and 25-9 on Friday. Northeast downed Waubonsee Community College, 25-20, 25-19 and 25-22, before falling to No. 1 Parkland College 13-25, 13-25 and 22-25.

Caitlin Orton (Mills, Neb.) and Hannah Heppner (Stanton, Neb.) each had seven kills to lead the Hawks against Moraine Valley. MaKayla Davidson (Alliance, Neb.) notched 22 assists and 11 digs, while Josie Sanger (Crofton, Neb.) added 18 digs. In the win over Lincoln Land, Brianna Bauer (O’Neill, Neb.) recorded 19 digs and 12 kills. Davidson added 35 assists and 12 digs, while Sanger tallied 15 digs.

On Saturday against Waubonsee, Bauer had 16 kills and 14 digs. Orton pitched in 10 kills, while Davidson had 36 assists and seven digs. Caitlin Kumm (Osmond, Neb.) and Sanger recorded 16 and 12 digs, respectively. In the final match of the tournament, Orton led the way with eight kills. Davidson added 23 assists and 10 digs, while Sanger had 21 digs.

The Hawks return to ICCAC play at 7 p.m. Wednesday against Iowa Central Community College at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
