Hanson named NSIC Baseball Player of the Week for second time in three weeks

For the second time in three weeks, Wayne State College junior infielder Andrew Hanson was selected Northern Sun Conference Baseball Player of the Week Tuesday by the league office in Burnsville, Minnesota following his play last weekend in a three-game series at Newman University in Kansas. Hanson was named the first NSIC Player of the Week this season on February 10th.

A 6-1, 185 pound second baseman from Burnsville, Minnesota (Burnsville HS), Hanson hit .583 last weekend going 7 for 12 at the plate with two homers, three doubles and seven RBI for a 1.333 slugging percentage. He had a pair of three-hit games while extending his hitting streak to 10 games to start the season. Hanson was 3 for 4 with a homer, double and three runs scored in Fridays 14-10 win over the Jets, hit a two-run homer in a 10-6 loss and capped the series going 3 for 5 with two doubles and four RBI in a 15-1 victory over Newman on Saturday.

For the season, Hanson is hitting .444 with eight doubles, three homers and 14 RBI and has recorded seven multi-hit games while hitting safely in all 10 games this season for the Wildcats.

Wayne State is 6-4 on the season and resumes play on Sunday, March 8th when the Wildcats take their annual spring break trip to Florida for the RussMatt Invitational playing Tiffin (Ohio) and Grand Valley State on the first day of the tournament.
