Haliburton Named Cousy Award Finalist

Haliburton Named Cousy Award Finalist

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State men’s basketball player Tyrese Haliburton has been announced as one of 10 candidates for the 2020 Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award, which is awarded annually to the nation’s top point guard in Division I men’s college basketball. A national committee comprising top college basketball personnel narrowed the list to just 10.

Haliburton is averaging 15.7 points, 6.8 assists, 6.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals, the only player nationally to average those marks. The Oshkosh, Wisconsin native has scored in double figures in 17 games this season and is one of 18 players to record a triple-double, posting 22 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists against TCU. The sophomore is shooting 50 percent from the field, 41 percent behind the arc and 83.7 percent at the free-throw line.

Haliburton owns the nation’s best assist-to-turnover ratio over the last two seasons (3.14).

Starting Five Fan Voting presented by Dell Technologies will go live Friday, Feb. 7 at In March, five finalists will be presented to Mr. Cousy and the Hall of Fame’s selection committee. The winner of the 2020 Bob Cousy Award will be presented at The College Basketball Awards presented by Wendy’s in Los Angeles on Friday, April 10.

While Iowa State has never had a Bob Cousy Award winner, former Cyclone Monté Morris was a finalist in 2015 and 2016.
