The Gering volleyball team opened up their season on Thursday night in their remodeled home gym in style with a come from behind win over rival Alliance.
After Alliance took the first set 25-13 it was Gering rallying back to win the next three by the scores of 25-22, 25-17, and 25-19.
KNEB carried last night’s match on 101.7 The Trail and kneb.com and afterwards on the postgame show Head Coach, Amanda Cochran, credited the play of Zoee Smith, Elli Winkler, and Kennie McFarland as a big reason why her team was able to get a win on opening night.
Winkler was named the Taco John’s Player of the Game after finishing with 49 attacks and team leading 11 kills in the match.
Smith, the University of Wyoming recruit, played well in all facets of the game. Smith talllied 18 digs and chipped in 3 kills with 5 ace serves as well.
McFarland finished with 4 digs and 3 aces.
Also standing out for Gering last night was Macey Boggs with 21 set assists, 4 aces and a team leading 4 blocks.
Jordan Hopp led Alliance with 9 and 6 blcoks.
Gering’s in action again next Tuesday when they host Torrington.
