GACC Goes 3-0 At Second Day of State Softball

HASTINGS – The Guardian Angels Central Catholic softball team fought off elimination and went 3-0 at the Class C state tournament in Hastings on Thursday.

The Bluejays opened the day with a 6-3 win over Auburn. Game highlights include a two-run home run by Aubrey Kreikemeier, who went 2-3 with three RBI. Erin Franzluebbers struck out 13 batters.

GACC beat Malcolm 5-1 in the second game. Brynn Baumert hit a solo home run for the Bluejays and Brenna Rief went 3-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBI. Franzluebbers struck out 14 batters.

In their final game of the day, GACC knocked off #2 seed and last years Class C state champions Fairbury 9-1. Jenna Schinstock went 3-4 with a pair of two-run home runs, scored three times and recorded five RBI. Aubrey Kreikemeier had three singles and an RBI, and Rief had three singles. Franzluebebrs struck out five batters.

The Bluejays are now 26-3 in the season and will meet Bishop Neumann in the semifinals on Friday at 11:30. The winner of that game will face Kearney Catholic for the state championship starting at 2:00.
