Omaha, Neb. — Creighton womens basketball head coach Jim Flanery officially inked Lexi Unruh on national signing day, Wednesday, Nov. 11.
Coming to the Bluejays from Sioux Falls, S.D., the 5-11 guard is a completing her fifth season with Sioux Falls Christian HS (SFCHS) as she suited up for the Chargers for limited action as an eighth grader. Sidelined by an injury during the 2019-20 season, Unruh was a First Team All-State selection in 2018-19 as well as a First Team All-Dak 12 selection as both a freshman and sophomore. Unruh has shown the ability to be highly disruptive on the defensive end, setting the SFCHS single-season record with 93 steals in 2018-19. She holds the career mark for steals entering the 2020-21 season with 199 (93 in 2018-19, 81 in 2017-18 and 25 in 2016-17).
Back on the court this summer, Unruh is much more than a disruptive defensive force. In both her freshman and sophomore seasons Unruh topped 300 points, including 356 during the 2018-19 campaign. Unruh shot better than 50% in 2018-19, hitting 148-of-285 shots from the field. During her career she is 306-of-584 from the field (52.4%).
Unruh will have some familiarity when she gets to Omaha as her club teammate from South Dakota Attack, Emma Ronsiek, is set to begin her freshman campaign with the Bluejays.
“Lexi is a really versatile guard. Shes long, athletic and can do a lot of things at both ends of the floor. Having missed her junior year with an injury, were excited to see her get the chance to play her senior season coming up,” said Flanery. “Shes going to fit in really well here with her personality, work ethic and physical gifts.”
