Creighton Women fall at Marquette

Milwaukee, Wis. — Despite a combined 50 points from seniors Emma Ronsiek and Molly Mogensen, #20 Creighton fell in its BIG EAST road opener to #19 Marquette 76-70 on Wednesday, December 13.

The loss moved the Bluejays to 7-2 on the season and 0-1 in BIG EAST play, while Marquette climbed to 10-0 overall and 1-0 in conference action.

Creighton struggled from the field early as the Bluejays trailed 23-16 after one period and were down 30-19 with 8:41 remaining in the first half. Lauren Jensen and Ronsiek rallied their troops as a pull-up jumper by Jensen and five straight by Ronsiek made it a 30-26 contest (4:28). Down 34-26 moments later (3:49), Creighton closed the half on a 10-2 run to send the teams to the locker rooms knotted at 36-36.

The third and fourth quarter was a back-and-forth, featuring 11 lead changes and eight ties.  Deadlocked at 66-66 (3:31), the Golden Eagles got the last push with a 7-0 stretch over the next three minutes to take the game on their home floor.

Ronsiek led all scorers with 29 points, while Mogensen delivered 21 points. Lauren Jensen also finished with double-figures for the Bluejays with 13 points.

Marquette saw four of its five starters close with double digits led by 25 points and 12 rebounds from Liza Karlen. Mackenzie Hare finished with 15 points, while Jordan King and Rose Nkumu each delivered 11 points.

Creighton returns to the court on Sunday, December 17 in another tough road battle at Drake with a scheduled 2:00 p.m. (CT) tip.
