Creighton Volleyball signs five

OMAHA, Neb. – Head coach Kirsten Bernthal Booth announced a recruiting class on Wednesday of five young women that have signed to pursue their education and continue their volleyball careers at Creighton University.

Joining the Bluejays in the fall of 2020 will be libero/defensive specialist Ellie Bolton (Lenexa, Kan.), outside hitter Reagan Karlin (Garden City, Kan.), setter Katie Maser (Grand Island, Neb.), middle blocker Kiara Reinhardt (Cedarburg, Wis.) and outside hitter/defensive specialist/libero Megan Skovsende (Omaha, Neb.).

“I think it’s a really talented group physically,” said Booth. “In addition to what they’ll bring to the court, I think these are also strong culture kids. We pride ourselves on having incredible culture and these young women understand the importance of playing for each other and how that can lead to a team’s success.”

Below is a profile on each prospect.

Ellie Bolton
A 5’7″ libero/defensive specialist from Lenexa, Kansas. Attended St. James Academy for high school.
High school team is ranked 19th nationally in the USA Today Super 25 rankings.
Named a Second Team Under Armour All-American as a senior.
The No. 97 Senior Ace per PrepVolleyball.com
Owns school records for digs in a season and digs in a career.
Recorded 583 digs (6.3 dps) leading team to a Class 5A state runner-up finish as a senior.
Named Eastern Kansas League MVP as a senior.
Selected to the 5A State All-Tournament Team during sophomore, junior and senior seasons
Averaged 6.0 digs per set, totaling 616 digs to lead her team to a Class 5A state title in 2017 as a sophomore.
Recognized by PrepVolleyball.com as a National Sophomore Player of the Year Finalist following the 2017 season and Junior Player of the Year Finalist following the 2018 campaign.
Named First Team All-State and First Team All-Eastern Kansas League after both her sophomore and junior seasons, helping team to a state title each season.
Named 2018 EKL Libero of the Year and a PrepVolleyball.com High School All-American Honorable Mention choice.
Owned 247 digs (2.3 dps.) as a freshman.
Also recognized by PrepVolleyball.com as a 17’s Club Third Team All-American and among their Defensive Dandies (2nd Team in 2018; 3rd Team in 2017).
Also named to the 4.0 GPA Honor Roll.
Plays with the KC Power club volleyball program.

Booth on Bolton: “I think Ellie is one of the premier libero recruits in the country. Not only is she physically gifted, but both her high school and club coaches say she is aplayer who makes those around her better and an incredible culture kid, which I think will continue to advance our program.”

Reagan Karlin
A 6’2″ outside hitter from Garden City HS in Kansas.
As a senior, named First Team All-Western Athletic Conference honors for the third year in a row.
Finished her high school career with 1,347 kills on .415 hitting.
Had 395 kills and 211 digs earning a spot on the Class 6A State All Tournament Team as a senior.
Named 2018 WAC Player of the Year as a junior.
Earned Kansas Class 6A First Team All-State with 387 kills (4.7 kps) on .396 hitting as a sophomore.
Plays club for Fight Club Volleyball.
Coached by Trista Bailey.

Booth on Karlin: “We’re excited to get Reagan in our gym. She’s a really gifted athlete who has a ton of potential and a great work ethic. She hasn’t had the opportunity to play at open level club like some of our athletes, but I think will be a diamond in the rough who has an incredible career.”

Katie Maser
A 5’9″ setter from Grand Island Central Catholic HS.
Helped the Crusaders to the Class C-2 state title with 32 assists, nine digs, four blocks and three aces in state title match.
Received Class C1 All-State Honorable Mention during her sophomore season.
Averaged 11.2 assists per set (1,015) and had 43 aces leading team to the C-1 state tournament runner-up.
Dished a school-record and Class C-1 record in career assists with 3,912, including 963 this season.
Plays club for the Nebraska Juniors.
Was coached by Sharon Zavala.

Booth on Maser: “She just became the all-time C-1 assist leader in the state of Nebraska. She sets a great ball and is a fantastic young woman who knows how to win. She comes from a traditional power and plays for both a great high school coach and great club program.”

Kiara Reinhardt
A 6’3″ middle blocker from Cedarburg HS in Wisconsin.
The No. 46 Senior Ace per PrepVolleyball.com.
Earned First Team All-State as a junior, when she was also named Team MVP, Team Offensive Player of the Year, North Shore Conference Player of the Year and First Team All-North Shore Conference for the league champs.
First Team All-North Shore Conference and a Third Team All-State pick during sophomore season after recording 303 kills, 115 blocks and 45 aces.
Also named team’s Offensive Player of the Year as a sophomore.
Was Honorable Mention all-North Shore Conference during her freshman year.
Plays club volleyball with the Milwaukee Sting.
Coached by Jimmy Burg.

Booth on Reinhardt: “Kiara is a really gifted middle blocker and a strong leader. She had a lot of different opportunities and we’re really excited that she picked Creighton. Unfortunately, she was injured most of her senior high school season, but she plays for a phenomenal club program and I know she is excited to get back on the court. We think she has a ton of potential.”

Megan Skovsende
A 5’11” outside hitter/defensive specialist/libero from Skutt Catholic in Omaha, Nebraska.
High school team is ranked 20th nationally in the USA Today Super 25 rankings.
Helped the SkyHawks to a fifth straight state title on Saturday with a match-high 16 kills vs. Duchesne, adding six digs and two blocks on .444 hitting.
Had 338 kills hitting .308 and 244 digs during sophomore season earning All-State Class B Second Team and State All-Tournament Team Honors.
Had collected 237 kills, hitting .301 with 258 digs entering last weekend’s state tournament.
Named an Honorable Mention Under Armour All-American as a senior.
Plays club for Premier Nebraska.
Coached by Renee Saunders.

Booth on Skovsende: “Megan’s high school team has won four state championships. She played outside hitter most of the time and played libero one year. Just like our other recruits, she’s a fantastic young woman whost will do anything for the team and has the talent to help up in a lot of different facets.”

The 2019 Creighton team (20-4, 13-1 BIG EAST) will play road matches at Xavier and Butler this weekend. The Bluejays are currently ranked 14th nationally.
